This is a Cessna 172 engine frame. It came in broken, which is not unusual. The repair required welding of the original broken section, then the fitting of the doublers to both sides of the joint.
For the repair, the engine frame is bolted to our welding fixture to control distortion and ensure alignment of the engine and attachments.
Once the welding is complete, the repair area is normalised with oxy acetylene heat.
The tubes are drilled #30 and have a small amount of linseed oil injected to prevent internal corrosion. The holes are filled with cherry max rivets.
All done in several hours and won’t be a problem again.
